What does membership of Ely Padel Club give me?

Membership gives you a 40% discount on your individual court hire, a 20% discount on coaching sessions and the ability to book a court 14 days in advance compared to 7 days in advance for non-members. You will also become a member of Ely Outdoor Sports Association (EOSA) and as such receive a membership card that gives you discounts across the bar at EOSA and some local restaurants.

How do I become a member?

Download the PadelMates app, register and go to Ely Padel Club.  Click on membership and complete by making a payment

How do I book a padel court?

You can book courts easily on your phone through the Padel Mates app. Click on 'Book a Court', choose the day and time you'd like to book.  Click 'Book a Court' and then choose to pay for the entire court or just your share of it by choosing 'Split Payment' and invite other players. Once booked, you'll receive an access code in the confirmation email for the gate.

Do I need to be a member?

No, everyone can book a court. However, members enjoy discounted court hire and group coaching session rates and longer booking windows.

Can I book a court with friends?

Yes, you can. Padel Mates allows you to invite friends to join you for a match. Simply create an activity, set the sport, date, time, and location, and send invitations to your friends through the app.  Please see below how payment can be made and split.

How do I split payment?

Choose the 'Split Payment' option in the app.  Use the 'Add Players' feature to invite up to three people.  If they are members they will only pay the member's price.  If they don't join the game and pay by 2 hours after the actual booking time, you'll be charged the full charge of the court and will need to cover their share (at the non-member price), but you can arrange repayment privately. Padel Mates charges 25p for use of the Split Payment feature.  Please note that we have been made aware that the Split Payment feature is not available on the desktop version of PadelMates so you will need to access it via the PadelMates app.

Can members hire the whole court at the member's rate for non-members to also play?

Yes, but if you book a whole court, you will be charged the full cost minus your individual member's discount.  For example a member will be charged £25.20 for a court - £4.20 for their fee and £7 for the other players.  If you pay for the court outright you won’t be charged a fee by PadelMates.

Can members hire the whole court for other members to also get the member's discount?

Yes.  Select a time, choose "Split Payment," and use the "Add Players" feature to invite up to three people.  If the other players are members and join the booking, they will only pay the member's price too.  Those that aren’t Ely Padel Club members will pay the non member’s price.  Padel Mates charges 25p for use of the Split Payment feature. 

When are you open?

Our courts are open 8 AM – 10 PM, seven days a week.

What happens if a weather disruption prevents me from playing?

Please see the full Outdoor Court Weather Policy on our Policies page. In summary, if the weather at the time of your booking is deemed to be unsuitable for play (snow, ice, heavy rain, lightning, or high winds) you will be offered to reschedule your game for a future date at no extra cost.

Can I cancel or reschedule my bookings?

Yes, you can cancel or reschedule your court bookings within 6 hours without being charged for the court.  Coaching sessions need to be cancelled 48 hours before the scheduled booking.  You may be charged a 25p cancellation fee by PadelMates

Are rackets and balls available to borrow or hire?

There will be a few rackets and balls in a container between the two padel courts for people to borrow for a £5 fee per court.  The hire is available as an extra that you can add at the checkout when booking a court.  Please make sure that you put the rackets back when you've finished.  Rackets will be available to borrow for coaching sessions.

How can I find coaching sessions and tournaments on the app?

To find Padel training sessions or tournaments, go to the "Activities" section in the app. Browse through the available options, select the one you're interested in, and register or book your spot as per the event details.

Can I create an Open Game for anyone else to join?

Yes. Choose a time, select "Split Payment," pay your share, and leave the game open for others to join via the app. Padel Mates charges 25p for use of the Split Payment feature.

• If you are the only player in the match, no booking will be created. The match will stay open for others to join but no court will be reserved yet. 
• If there are 2 players in the match, a booking will automatically be created if there are more than 12 hours remaining until the scheduled match time. If there are less than 12 hours left, no booking will be made yet but the match remains open for more players to join.
• If there are 3 players in the match, a booking will automatically be created if there are more than 4 hours remaining until the scheduled match time. If there are less than 4 hours left, the match stays open without booking until another player joins. 
• Once there are 4 players, a court will be reserved. If the conditions are not met, no booking will happen automatically until more players join or the time threshold is crossed.

How can I join an open game?

Go to the Activities tab to find open matches labelled "Open Match" or "Friendly Padel Match," and send a request to join.

Can I join a social session?

Yes, we have social sessions for differing levels that both members and non-members can join.  They are aimed at those players who want to play with other players but not in a competitive tournament.  Click on the Activities tab to see the various options.  

Can I join tournaments?

The Club has Beginnners, Improvers and Intermediate Americano tournaments arranged throughout the week which you can join.  Click on the Activities tab to see the various days and times and join.

What is an 'Americano'?

An  'Americano' is a fun, social tournament format where players are randomly paired with a new partner for each match, ensuring everyone plays with and against all participants. Each match comprises of 24 points with each player serving 6 points.  Points are recorded in the app at the end of each game and are accumulated individually, creating a balanced, round-robin competition. Matches are shorter, making them dynamic and accessible for all. 

What rating am I?

The Padel Mates app uses a player rating system to help match you with players of a similar skill level, ensuring enjoyable and competitive games. As the club continues to grow, the levels within the app will quickly evolve and we are confident people will find a level where they are happy and, if they want, can improve from.

How can I connect with other players?

You can connect via the PadelMates app.  We also have a WhatsApp group that anyone is welcome to join.  Simply email padel.astro@gmail.com with your mobile number and we will add you to the group.
